Job Overview

Our Search Analytics team works closely with the Search product team. We aim to power the growth of Coupang’s Search and Discovery experiences through data-driven insights. We are a team of creative problem solvers with a passion for providing innovative business and product solutions. We leverage big data to guide product decisions, deliver insights, metrics, and dashboards to increase search engagement, customer retention and build long term customer trust.

Given that Search and Discovery generates the majority of the revenue for one of the largest and fastest growing e-commerce platforms worldwide, the opportunities at Coupang’s Search Analytics team for an ambitious data scientist are endless.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional product leadership to identify product opportunities, guide prioritization, support execution and measurement for the Search and Discovery product team

  • Examine large-scale structured and unstructured data; develop comprehensive analysis and insights to inform the vision for the product team

  • Create and develop core business metrics, produce insightful automated dashboards and data visualization to track them and derive useful business insights

  • Design and conduct experiments to test new hypotheses to improve the search and recommendation models

  • Construct compelling narratives; provide logical recommendations; drive informed actions

  • Communicate findings to senior leaders and promote data-driven business decisions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field - Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related fields

  • 5-7 years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis

  • Database experience with advanced SQL or SQL-like skills (Hadoop-Hive); experience with complex and large data sets

  • Working knowledge of data and statistical analysis (e.g. Cohort analysis, Campaign Analysis, A/B tests)

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau

  • Ability to communicate information effectively to various groups at different levels

  • Willingness to deeply understand the data and to use creative thinking and problem-solving skills

  • A self-starter who takes the initiative to get things done

  • An exceptional team player with a customer-back mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline: statistics, operations research, computer science, informatics, engineering, applied mathematics, economics, etc.

  • Experience with manipulating massive-scale clickstream data

  • Experience with causal inference

  • Experience with Hadoop or other MapReduce paradigms, and associated languages such as Pig, Hive, etc.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable to synthesize, simplify and explain complex problems to different types of audiences, including executives

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation takes into account the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $138,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $297,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on various factors, including market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
