Job Description

We are currently looking for a Manager-level data scientist to lead analytical projects and insights for Visa's Predictive Models. The position will be based in our Foster City, CA office.

The Predictive Modeling team within the VAS department constructs and maintains significant consumer behavior models to address clients and issuers' business challenges. The team collaborates closely with risk product stakeholders to comprehend the business problem and apply the appropriate analytical approach that ultimately benefits customers.

Responsibilities include delivering projects within the stipulated time and scope with a profound understanding of big data and forefront data mining techniques as well as using predictive, classification, machine learning, and alternative analytic algorithms for modeling and segmentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute model validation and analyze model performance in terms of strength and stability. Implement statistical standards and procedures to evaluate new models.
  • Assemble complex predictive model packages for production deployment, support model installations, and monitor and calibrate production models.
  • Drive analytic product development through statistical analyses of various data sources and add value to products by innovative applications of analyses.
  • Define financial and analytic metrics to gauge development and production outcomes and produce performance reports.
  • Identify opportunities to create and automate repeatable analyses or build self-service tools for business users.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts with sound statistical and financial analysis, execute ad-hoc analyses to meet rapidly changing market demands.
  • Perform transaction data analyses with Hadoop/Cloud and big data technologies for internal and external product owners, and develop deeper insights into the products using advanced statistical methods.
  • Ensure project delivery within deadlines and fulfil critical business needs.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote big data innovations and analytic education throughout the Visa organization.
  • Undertake ad-hoc data science/analytical projects.

This is a hybrid role. Hybrid employees can divide their time between remote work and the office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office for 2-3 predetermined days each week (set by leadership/site), with a general guideline of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five or more years of related work experience, or at least two years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or no work experience with a PhD.


Preferred Qualifications

  • At least six years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, four or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Master’s, MBA, JD, MD), or up to three years with a PhD in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, etc.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in developing statistical predictive models.
  • Prior modeling experience in credit card industry or a financial service company for fraud, credit risk, bankruptcy or marketing is preferable
  • Hands-on experience with Hadoop and related query engines (Hive/Pyspark/Scala) is required
  • High proficiency in Python, Spark and Unix/Linux scripts
  • Deep knowledge of Machine Learning and AI procedures
  • Experience with SAS/SQL/Hive for data extraction and aggregation
  • Deep learning hands-on experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem-solve
  • Proven intellectual and analytical skills, meticulous attention to details and excellent business writing, speaking, and presentation skills.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Depends on the department's requirements.

Travel Requirements: This job will require 5-10% of travel time

Mental/Physical Requirements: This job will be performed in an office setting and will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated range for new hires for this position is from 144,600.00 to 180,000.00 USD, potentially including sales incentive payments (if applicable). The salary may vary depending on various job-related factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This position could also be eligible for bonuses and equity considerations.
