Team Background

As a key division within the AI Foundations organization, our team empowers the development and validation of autonomous vehicle software. We provide a reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient compute platform for rapid autonomous vehicle software development, validation, and deployment. Our mission encompasses orchestration of various workloads such as simulations, model compilation and deployment, performance validation, builds, labeling on the Cloud, and custom Cruise hardware.

Role: Staff Software Engineer, AI Compute Platform

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead critical initiatives within our AI Validation Platform team. The focus areas include scaling, increasing efficiency, and optimizing GPU usage while enhancing platform reliability and user experience. The ideal candidate will have experience building and managing scalable distributed systems, a strong problem-solving ability, and a proactive mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage core platform components and services.
  • Enhance system efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Identify and drive improvements across product areas.
  • Lead large-scale initiatives, raising the overall engineering standards at Cruise.
  • Foster community recognition for Cruise engineering.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proven success in developing large-scale distributed systems.
  • Expertise in Go or similar programming languages.
  • Effective collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP or Azure.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment with evolving priorities.

Bonus Points:

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes at scale.
  • Knowledge of messaging platforms and event-driven systems.
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC).
  • Familiarity with queuing and scheduling algorithms.
  • Experience leading significant cross-functional initiatives.
  • Active participation in the open-source community.
