The Financial Operations Data Analyst Position

Sunnova Energy is searching for Financial Operations Data Analyst to be responsible for creating efficiencies within the Finance organization by functionally designing and developing data analytics, dashboards, and reporting for finance transformation, in support of Sunnova’s ongoing expansion and scale. The primary objective of the Data Analyst will be analyzing, drawing insights from, and making predictions using data generated from Sunnova’s over 225 thousand unique solar and storage customer relationships. An ideal candidate will have technical skill with data and programs, process and design savvy to help internal customers define their needs, and soft skills to work with stakeholders on how to use what they have built. Success will be measured by driving continuous improvement across the Finance and Accounting organization to achieve greater efficiencies and scalability by designing and creating data analytics or other automation to reduce manual processes and produce faster results.

Data Analyst, Financial Operations Responsibilities

  • Creates new reports or ad hoc data requests utilizing Tableau, OneStream, or process automation tools supporting Finance & Accounting teams
  • Maintains and develops enhancements for existing code base specific to the Finance and Accounting organization
  • Improves the organization’s ability, via better tools, processes and data reporting to perform meaningful analysis and provide faster and more actionable information to be used by the organization to drive results
  • Documents business requirements and data definitions for new reports/analytics or updates.
  • Follows internal control best practices for report updates and code changes.
  • Develops relevant training materials for their projects as needed.
  • Develops requirements to bring highest value to organization and prioritizes work by identifying impact
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with counterparts in the IT function to stay abreast of strategic and tactical objectives of this most important partner organization
  • Coordinate with multiple departments and functional teams such as Finance, IT, Commercial Operations, and Service & Energy Operations.
  • Presents demonstrations of work, documentation, requirements, and training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics. A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or relevant area also accepted
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Proficiency in coding using Python, SQL, RPA, or similar programming languages
  • Working knowledge of common Excel functionality (index functions, lookups, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Experience building data analytics reports with Tableau or similar software with large data sources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Agile methodology
  • Background in Salesforce
  • Knowledge of accounting or finance data/processes
  • Prior experience in renewable energy business or financial services industry
  • Prior knowledge in common renewable energy financing strategies (e.g., securitization, tax equity, green bonds, or project finance)
