Job Description
We're in search of a fantastic individual to join Wolt as a Data Science Lead! There are openings in various teams, such as Wolt Market and Supply & Demand, with the following focal points:
- Wolt Market - Builds tools for operating our own grocery stores (dark stores), working on demand forecasting, pricing, and inventory optimization.
- Supply & Demand - Builds tools and automation for understanding and handling courier supply and customer demand. Topics include forecasting, supply signalling, and demand shaping.
We're seeking someone to take on the Data Science Team Lead role in one of the domains mentioned above. These are cross-functional teams where data scientists collaborate with engineers, designers, and product and analytics professionals. The engineers and other team members have their own leaders. Your focus will be mainly on the data science aspect.
You understand what it takes to expand Data Science as a function, how to care exceptionally for exceptional individuals, and above all: improve our Data Science capabilities by working hands-on and owning Machine Learning use cases as part of the team. You'll act as a facilitator and enabler for the team to do what they do best by creating personal development plans, holding regular one-on-ones, and so forth.

This role can be based in our tech hubs in Helsinki, Berlin, or Stockholm, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. You can learn more about our remote setup . Don't worry if you live outside these countries! We offer relocation support to help you move to Finland, Germany, or Sweden.
Qualifications
We hope that you primarily identify yourself as an enthusiast of Data Science. You derive joy from solving challenges and having a business impact through Data Science!
- You've previously built Data Science and Machine Learning solutions with a measurable impact. You know how to create data products and deeply care about the user experience;
- You also understand what it takes to build production-quality ML solutions, and are able to assist team members with technical challenges;
- We would also like you to have substantial experience in leading a technical Data Science team to ensure we continue to improve our Data Science best practices at Wolt while looking after our team;
- You have previous experience in making personal development plans, hosting regular one-on-ones, and taking part in recruitment;
- You have abundant prior hands-on experience with production-level Data Science projects (from prototyping to maintaining and enhancing production-ready solutions);
- Deep understanding and experience with Machine Learning, a solid understanding of Statistics, and experience with Operations Research and Optimization is a plus;
- You’ll also need to represent your function towards the rest of the organization, so strong communication and presentation skills are required;
- Lastly, as this is a team effort you need to be a strong cultural leader who cares about the well-being and constant improvement of your team members and embodies Wolt values in your daily work.
