The Open Source Strategy and Marketing (OSSM – pronounced ‘awesome’) team is seeking a Senior Open Source Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML) strategist to influence our AWS strategy with regards to open source AI/ML, acting as a public-facing thought leader within this field.
Open source is the disruption arena for AI/ML and AWS is continually investing in this area, including significant open source projects. You will collaborate with service teams, partners, and open source communities to identify opportunities and risks for AWS in AI/ML that will strengthen our relationships and leadership in open source. You will also represent AWS by speaking at major industry events and in smaller meetings with decision makers and developers. The perfect candidate will have excellent communication skills enabling them to engage large crowds and experienced executives.

- Can design and deliver engaging presentations for a developer audience
- Have public speaking experience to large audiences
- Understand the complexities of open source communities, their cultures, and preferred methods of engagement and promotion
- Can effectively communicate this understanding to other stakeholders
- Have a knowledgeable and informed opinion on the definition and use of open source in AI/ML
This position can be based in Seattle, WA (preferred) or Portland, OR. Relocation to these locations is only offered from within the US.
Key job responsibilities:
- Build and strengthen a network with other leaders in the open source AI/ML space
- Plan and execute appropriate speaking opportunities
- Develop messaging for open source AI/ML at AWS
- Write blog posts
- Work closely with AWS service teams, sales/business development, PR, DevRel, and marketing managers to ensure the AWS open source message reaches a broad audience through events, seminars, webinars, and other leadership activities
- Build an effective plan to influence perception of AWS in open source AI/ML
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of metrics, reports, and analyses to enable effective decision making
- Write and speak persuasively to inform decisions and influence leadership
- Prepare and deliver regular business reviews and clearly communicate engagement results
- Travel, as necessary (some karaoke required, singing is optional)
About the team:
The OSSM team includes veterans who have worked for some of the top open source companies and foundations, as well as talented and passionate open source newcomers. With our open-source experience (encompassing both significant successes and notable failures) and communication skills, we assist service teams, the field, and others to effectively engage with open source constituents: project communities, media, analysts, and customers. Our mission is to help AWS significantly increase the scope and value of our open source involvement, and help customers and communities learn about our involvement and understand why it matters.

Basic Qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience
- Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
- Experience building, executing and scaling cross-functional marketing programs
- Experience with reporting results to senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with ML training and inference, libraries, and packages, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and Foundation Models
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using any of SQL or other analytical tools for conducting data analysis
- Master's degree
- Research experience in open source and AI/ML

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $110,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $277,700/year in our highest geographic market.
