Data Architect About us: Luno is the crypto investment app you can trust, providing a secure platform to buy, store, and explore cryptocurrencies. We firmly believe in putting the power of cryptocurrency into everyone's hands sensibly and responsibly. Since 2013, we have helped millions around the world invest safely in crypto by cutting through the hype and supporting customers at every step. All products and cryptocurrencies on our platform must satisfy stringent legal, risk, and technical security standards. We avoid memecoins. Transparency is our cornerstone. Luno also stores all crypto on a 1:1 basis with rigorous processes, providing confidence that your investment is secure. We currently operate in more than 40 countries, collaborating closely with regulators to ensure compliance, as we believe this is the best way to help everyone invest safely everywhere. About the team: Our engineering team is divided into organizations known as Fleets. Each Fleet focuses on a key customer journey such as onboarding, security, payments, support, new business, growth, and marketing. These Fleets contain multiple smaller teams called Pods, each one responsible for a specific aspect of the product. Pods comprise a product owner, product designer, back-end engineers, Android, iOS, and Web developers, each bringing a unique perspective to the problem at hand. We follow agile methodologies, such as scrum, continuous integration, and continuous delivery, deploying to production daily. The role in a nutshell: Luno is heavily investing in the creation of a next-generation Data Platform to enable consistent, timely decision-making and to provide consistent data regarding customers, transactions, and other entities across our business and platform. We've laid the foundation for this platform using the Databricks stack within AWS and are rolling out a Data Product-centric approach to prioritization and design, allowing us to serve our users and customers effectively. As the Data Architect, your role will be to support this initiative and acknowledge the crucial role of data in the crypto industry. Your mission will be to: 1. Lead the technology choices, tools, and business processes to ensure consistent data and high data quality across all workflows. 2. Work with Product Management, Data Science, and Business Analysts to identify core Data Products and design the necessary data flows. 3. Define and implement strategies around data governance, data privacy & security. 4. Collaborate with the Data Engineering Manager, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, Business Partners, and cross-Fleet Architecture. 5. Define, develop, implement and evolve the data model for all business domains, ensuring alignment across the group. 6. Contribute to the overall data platform strategy, roadmap, data product delivery, information security, and compliance. 7. Champion and contribute to the creation and maintenance of a data catalogue and a common language to rationalize our data use across the business. 8. Identify areas of innovation in data tools and techniques, and recognize the appropriate timing for adoption. 9. Mentor and develop the team of data engineers and the larger engineering team on best data practices. A little about you: You should ideally have 5+ years of similar experience, with experience as a Data Architect in a regulated environment (like gambling, finance, crypto, health, public companies). A deep understanding of data models, standards, and tools, experience in strategy and product development teams, and a broader understanding of data governance and data policy for an enterprise environment will be beneficial. You should also be familiar with Metadata Management, cloud environment solutions (ideally AWS), Databricks, Apache Spark, and the core competencies of a data architect. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all these requirements; they're a guide based on what we'd ideally like to see, but we understand that excellent software engineers can come from diverse backgrounds. Life at Luno: Luno's environment is forward-thinking, ambitious, values diversity, hard work, and is always striving for excellence. Our work policy allows you the liberty to work from home or office. We offer excellent private medical insurance, access to Learnerbly and Code Academy, generous maternity/paternity leaves (and even paw-ternity for your furry friend), an annual Inspiration Day, regular social events, free lunch and snacks, and free access to Headspace – a full library of guided meditations, sleep stories, and music. No fees apply at Luno from your first day. Please note: The no-fee offer only applies to Instant Buy at Luno, not Luno Exchange. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity.
