About the Evonik Skin Institute

The Evonik Skin Institute focuses on the biological and clinical evaluation of cosmetic ingredients and supports innovation projects. The Assistant/Head of Biological Data Management consolidates and evaluates omics data, designs solutions for data analysis, and automates data interpretation. This role also involves implementing AI-based solutions for product development and coordinating data organization and storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Multi-omics Data Analysis and Pipeline Design: Develop computational methods to analyze and integrate various biological datasets, including epigenomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data.
  • Project Design Advisory: Provide advice to scientists on optimizing research projects for computational efficiency and ease of subsequent analysis.
  • Image Analysis: Create algorithms and computational pipelines to analyze biological images from modalities such as microscopy and clinical imaging.
  • AI and Machine Learning Implementation: Design and use AI and machine learning algorithms to identify patterns, correlations, and predictive models from multi-dimensional biological datasets.
  • Data Cross-Integration: Work with the team to integrate image data with other biological data types for a comprehensive understanding of biological systems.
  • Data Management: Design databases to efficiently store and retrieve multi-omics and image data while ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Biological Storytelling: Collaborate with the team to correlate data with biological effects in the skin.
  • Collaborative Research: Partner with experimental biologists and other researchers to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.

Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R.
  • Experience with AI and machine learning techniques and libraries.
  • Knowledge of database management and data integration methodologies.
  • Understanding of statistical methods for analyzing biological data.
  • Familiarity with image analysis software packages, including image segmentation, feature extraction, object detection, and tracking.
  • Expertise in utilizing bioinformatics databases and resources.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex biological data.
  • Knowledge of skin biology and/or epigenetics is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and presenting findings to stakeholders.
