Role Summary: Robotics Systems Engineer

In this pivotal role, you will lead and conduct engineering research to enhance the effectiveness of autonomous systems through the application of AI-related technologies. This position is based in Arlington, VA or Pittsburgh, PA, and involves moderate travel.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of experience, OR Master’s degree with 5+ years, OR PhD with 2+ years.
  • Willingness to travel to SEI offices, sponsor sites, and conferences (approximately 25%).
  • Eligibility for a Department of Defense security clearance upon a thorough background investigation.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Solution Development: Lead teams from concept to prototype, turning research into operational capabilities for government stakeholders.
  • Hands-on Prototyping: Engage in advanced prototyping in AI and autonomy across multi-domain uncrewed systems.
  • Strategy: Collaborate with AI Division leaders to influence national research and technology agendas.
  • Collaboration: Partner with internal teams and external thought leaders to tackle emerging challenges in autonomous systems.
  • Mentoring: Enhance team expertise through mentorship and sharing of knowledge within AI applications.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning and AI, particularly in robotics and autonomous systems.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering and familiarity with the full lifecycle of AI-enabled systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics control, motion planning, and AI-integrated task management.
  • Experience with software and systems engineering tools like Docker and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, necessary for interacting with diverse teams and stakeholders.
