About the Role

Join our Advanced Robotics team within the Corporate Engineering and R&D department as a Research Intern. Our team focuses on developing novel technologies that endow robots with human-like perception and dexterity capabilities. The successful candidate will design, develop, and evaluate Task and Motion Planning algorithms for Articulated Manipulator Robots, working under the guidance of a Robotics Software Technical Specialist. As part of Magna’s Student Program, this role offers practical work experience in your field of study related to the automotive industry.

Your Responsibilities

  • Review, evaluate, and benchmark the performance of Motion Planning algorithms for Articulated Robot Manipulators.
  • Implement Motion Planning and Task Planning algorithms in C++ in a ROS 2 environment.
  • Create representative case studies to understand solution capabilities and limitations.
  • Create, modify, and implement software packages for practical applications.
  • Develop evaluation criteria to test and assess system effectiveness.
  • Present technical results and provide recommendations based on case studies.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experience in implementing Motion Planning algorithms using OMPL and Move It 2.
  • Exemplary coding and scripting abilities in C++, Python, and ROS 2.
  • Experience working with ROS 2 and Robotic Manipulators in simulation or on real-world robots.
  • Experience in AI, FSM, Behavior Trees, and Task Planning frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Forward/Inverse Kinematics, Robot Dynamics, and Algorithm development.
  • Solid foundation in Robotics fundamentals.
  • Curious problem solver, team player, and thrive in collaborative, small team environments.

Your Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Graduate student preferably in an MS or PhD program focused on Robotics, Motion Planning, Controls, and Task Planning for manipulator robots.
