Senior Data Scientist - Drug Discovery at Lifelancer

This is a contract position with excellent home working flexibility, initially lasting 12 months with the potential to extend. You will be working closely with a cross-functional team of R&D Scientists, Bioinformaticians, Medics, and Statisticians. In this role, you will develop and apply various Data Science and Machine Learning (ML) approaches to analyze large-scale NGS and other omics data sets, supporting drug discovery and development by suggesting novel targets and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Hands-on analysis of omic and genetic/genomic data sets, such as gene expression and transcriptomic data.
• Develop new scripts, tools, pipelines, and approaches for R&D projects using classical computational biology or machine learning methods (e.g., regression, boosting, graph-based approaches).
• Identify and implement innovative approaches for R&D, incorporating new data sets.
• Develop new functionalities and versions of existing tools and platforms.
• Collaborate with R&D stakeholders, such as drug discovery and development team leads, to advise on potential drug targets.
• Provide insights and ideas on drug discovery strategies and approaches.
• Engage in hands-on programming in R and/or Python for model development.

What You'll Need to Succeed

• BSc/MSc/PhD (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, biology, computer science, statistics, or a relevant discipline.
• Proven track record of working with genomic, NGS, or multi-omic data sets, ideally from clinical samples or drug discovery-focused projects.
• Knowledge and/or experience in drug discovery or development, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO environment, is preferred but not essential.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Hands-on experience with Machine Learning and/or predictive modeling approaches.
• Experience using machine learning methods and statistical models is a plus.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to relay information effectively to both computational and experimental scientists.
• Experience working collaboratively with teams on project work.
