SoFi is seeking an experienced and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Products team. The mission of this team is to activate data throughout SoFi, creating personalized and delightful experiences for our members. Our Data Products group designs, develops, and maintains the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The EDW allows data consumers in business, data science, and engineering to easily combine cross-product data, make informed business decisions, and complete regulatory reporting. As a Data Engineer, you will focus on designing, building, and maintaining new data pipelines and datasets for workflows across various Business Units at SoFi. You'll work on foundational and critical data products, enabling analytical, reporting, and machine learning use cases. Our goal is to empower all teams at SoFi with high-quality, highly available data, and democratized data access through self-service tools.

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and experienced Data Engineer who can tackle big data challenges in an agile manner. This role encompasses data design and analysis, data modeling, and the development, deployment, and operations of big data pipelines. You will lead the development of critical data pipelines and sets, expanding our self-service data knowledge and capabilities. This role places you at the intersection of data and engineering, requiring a deep understanding of data, analytical techniques, and practical experience in maintaining high operational standards for ETL and big data pipelines.

  • Design and develop robust data architectures and pipelines to support data ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools to build scalable and reliable data infrastructure.
  • Optimize data engineering systems and processes to efficiently handle large-scale data sets, designing solutions that scale both horizontally and vertically.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs. Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Enforce data governance policies and practices to maintain data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations. Work with data governance and security teams to implement robust data protection mechanisms and access controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in data engineering and analytics technical strategy.
  • Proficiency in data engineering technologies including Snowflake, Python, SQL, GitLab, AWS, Airflow, DBT, and others.
  • Experience with relational and cloud database platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or GCP.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or another data-centric language.
  • Thorough knowledge of data modeling, database design, data architecture principles, and data operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of simplifying complex issues into actionable plans.
  • Experience in the Fintech industry is advantageous.
