How You’ll Make an Impact

Xero's marketing team is undergoing a transformation to adopt a cutting-edge, automated, and data-centric approach to driving growth and impact. As part of the Applied Science team, you will be pivotal in designing and building the measurement and optimization framework for our marketing system. Collaborating with senior colleagues, marketing experts, and other business stakeholders, you’ll enhance the system’s effectiveness and efficiency.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop statistical, optimization, and machine learning models to measure and optimize marketing performance.
  • Design and execute marketing experiments, interpreting results to derive actionable insights.
  • Analyze user behavior and marketing performance to uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Present findings to leadership to inform business decisions.
  • Collaborate with partners like Google and Meta to understand and leverage their product offerings.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams in marketing, engineering, and product to develop our automated, algorithmic marketing platform.

  • Understanding the business problems and translating them into technical solutions.
  • Gaining a clear understanding of marketing impact to guide marketers and business stakeholders.
  • Choosing the right solutions for problems, whether simple or complex.
  • Increasing the efficiency and impact of marketing efforts.

Qualifications and Skills

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • A Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, or another quantitative discipline.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a Data Scientist, Applied Scientist, or similar role.
  • Experience in experimental design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with dashboarding/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • Experience using big data frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Skills in exploratory data analysis and model building.
  • A strong understanding of the mathematical foundations of statistics, optimization, economics, and analytics.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or a similar programming language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management, judgement, critical-thinking, and decision-making abilities.
