Job Description and Position Requirements

The Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR) at Penn State University is seeking a motivated Assistant Director of Assessment Research. OPAIR supports individual units towards organizational excellence by providing accessible and strategic institutional data and information across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, produce, and present academic program assessments and institutional effectiveness research to varied audiences.
  • Establish and document processes for extracting, compiling, analyzing, and presenting data related to student success, academic program assessment, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Prepare and deliver data-driven reports with a strong emphasis on data storytelling and visualization.
  • Collaborate within OPAIR and with university stakeholders.
  • Represent the assessment team in institutional research groups and university-wide initiatives.

Education and Experience:

The position requires a master’s degree or higher plus six years of experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as demonstrated through past research and reports.
  • Creative and innovative thinking to design studies addressing complex strategic issues.
  • Experience in data extraction and manipulation from various enterprise systems.
  • Expertise in basic statistics and statistical software, including R.
  • Proficiency in building reports and dashboards in Power BI or similar software.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in learning outcomes assessment.
  • Familiarity with human resources, student, and learning data systems.
  • Experience creating surveys and using software such as Qualtrics.
  • Proficiency in using Python for task automation.
