We are searching for a Head of Data Science (USA, location East Coast Time Zones). This personality sets the strategy and direction for Data Science and oversees all data scientists and data science managers within Software Engineering, and provides support and guidance to data science work within our Science department. The primary responsibility of the DS team is to develop, implement, and maintain the multiple machine learning models that fuel our product. The Head of DS also manages our Decision Science team, which supports Marketing, Finance, Product, and Member Experience with advanced analytics and data for business decision-making.

You will be an inspiring and supportive leader for your team and many colleagues you regularly interact with. You will empower your team by introducing them to better processes and tools, understanding and enabling their career goals, and expanding and training the team to meet future requirements. You will be an advocate for Data Science and Software Engineering as you work with Product, Science, and other stakeholders to establish our product strategy for the upcoming years.

Requirements

We would love to have you lead our team, if you:

  • Find our mission of making health an everyday practice, bringing improved well-being to millions worldwide, exciting
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, occasionally unpredictable, and highly collaborative work atmosphere
  • Have over seven years of work experience as a data scientist or a machine learning engineer, including developing models for product deployment and managing their placement
  • Have over five years of work experience in a leadership role, including three or more in a senior leadership position similar to this one
  • Have experience in evaluating new data platforms and tools, managing relationships with suppliers, and overseeing their integration
  • Bring experience and opinions about organizational design, work methods, and data governance, but are flexible and able to collaborate with others to enhance our strategy and operations
  • Are familiar with the best practices of data privacy, security, and quality, and are able to contribute to company-wide data standards in a sensitive and strictly regulated space
  • Are familiar with modern software development processes and can work with product managers to evaluate and contribute to their roadmaps
  • Familiarity with any of the following is a plus: AWS, PyTorch, time series analysis, signal processing, causal inference, large language models, physiological or wearable data, ML at the edge

Oura uses a market-based approach to pay, which may vary according to your location. US locations are classified into tiers based on the cost of labor index for that geographical area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, the salary of successful candidates will be determined by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be reviewed in the future.
