Major Duties:

As a Consultant in Data Governance at Northern Trust, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing tools and processes to maintain a common data standard across the organization.
  • Assessing, managing, and maintaining strategies that reduce data redundancy and enhance the consistency and confidence of data used for decision-making.
  • Defining and delivering data management standards, processes, and controls for the creation and maintenance of common data dictionaries.
  • Participating in periodic reviews to ensure compliance with data governance policies, including compliance assessments, monitoring, and control testing.
  • Resolving conflicting priorities among data owners, consumers, and custodians within the domain.
  • Collaborating with partners across the organization to maintain data governance and data quality structures, balancing business needs, quality, risk, and cost.
  • Serving as a key subject matter expert and mentor to junior-level employees.
  • Delivering work products that require minimal revision, demonstrating technical proficiency and broader knowledge.

Required Knowledge:

Candidates should possess:

  • Extensive knowledge of Data Governance, Data Quality, and Enterprise Data Management concepts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the role of Data Governance to both business and technical communities within the data domain.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • In-depth functional and industry knowledge.
  • High adaptability and flexibility to change.
  • Technical skills and systems knowledge (e.g., Peoplesoft).
