Job Description

  • Department: Data and Analytics
  • Salary: up to £50,000 depending on experience + Comprehensive benefits package
  • Location: Hybrid - Southampton, Nelson or Hessle (minimum of 3 days a week in office)

Role Overview

The Data and Analytics Team is a new team central to supporting Giacom's aim to become a truly data-driven business. We need to treat data as a valuable business asset by making sure we have a deep understanding of it and extracting value from it to facilitate our business growth. This can be achieved either through reporting, insights and analytics or by influencing our daily interaction with customers in the myriad ways that data can enable.

As a Data Analyst, you play a key role in realizing this vision. You'll be responsible for ensuring we have a deep understanding of our data, and you'll become a reliable partner for other parts of the business through your proactive engagement and precise interpretation of their issues. You will offer valuable and actionable insights to support these issues and decision-making in the most appropriate form. You will strive to dismantle data silos and encourage data sharing across the organisation.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Identify and collect data from a variety of sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, and external APIs.
  • Conduct and assist data cleansing activities, preferably at the source, to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and consequently trust in our data.
  • Respond to requests and proactively identify opportunities, employ statistical and analytical methods to inspect data and discover trends or patterns, and conduct experiments and tests to validate hypotheses and draw conclusions.
  • Build statistical or machine learning models to make predictions or forecasts.
  • Share insights and recommendations with stakeholders, presenting the data and information in the most appropriate, clear, and understandable manner.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and maintain the ethical use of data whenever processing it.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, or data science or proven experience in data analytics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, as well as data analysis and visualization tools including Power BI and Excel.
  • Experience with data cleaning, transformation, and visualization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the capability to work with large, complex datasets.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and techniques and the curiosity to use them.
  • Problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail and precision in data analysis and reporting
  • Effective communication skills to present findings and insights to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques (preferred, not mandatory).
