Job Description

We are seeking an Intern in Data Analytics Engineering to join our Data-as-a-Service team.

The Data-as-a-Service team is responsible for leveraging the vast amount of data that Shippeo has acquired during platform operation and deployment to multiple shippers and carriers, to extract insights from it and deliver data products falling into the following categories:

• analytics (e.g., internal use dashboards, dashboards embedded on the Shippeo platform),
• decision support tools,
• data extraction,
• data sharing,
• newsletters.

Some features the team develops and enhances are Shippeo customer-facing and internal dashboards. We're continually seeking new methods and new KPIs:

• to highlight operational problems and trends and present them to our customers,
• to monitor the quality of the data generated on Shippeo platform,
• to measure the use of Shippeo features by our diverse users and to leverage actions to optimize this usage,
• but also to analyze the quality of the data from various sources and providers that will guide the design of our different solutions

As an intern, your main responsibilities include:

• Building reporting dashboards and analyzing data quality of various transport mode flows
  Internal stakeholders require dedicated tools
  • to monitor the data quality of the new transport flows (road, ocean, air, intermodal, etc.) and to help them leverage actions to address data issues - data quality is vital for our customers to adequately, accurately, and timeously track their containers,
  • to communicate on the data quality of our flows and to assist our customers in improving their tracking, visibility of their operations performance and carbon emissions.

Your role will involve building new tools, maintaining existing ones, and transforming the data you require, and suggesting solutions to improve data quality monitoring.

Contributing to the continuous enhancement of our existing features

The current dashboards and data features are consistently challenged by our customers. They frequently suggest enhancements to facilitate data-driven decision-making using our tools. You will be responsible for implementing new product features based on customer requirements, the specifications, and the roadmap set by our product team.

Improving the monitoring of our data pipeline and features

Data observability is a crucial aspect of data applications to maintain high-quality and clear customer-facing data. Your role will be to contribute to the monitoring and documentation of data products, by building data quality checks and data catalogues. Furthermore, you will assist in bettering our financial operations reporting. Indeed, running data pipelines and high-frequency data querying necessitates strong cost and performance supervision.

Your duties will also encompass:

• Understanding the current data pipeline used by Shippeo to build analytics products,
• Understanding the requirements and defining business challenges,
• Extracting data from various data sources,
• Conducting various analyses through statistical analysis and data visualization techniques,
• Communicating your findings to various parties,
• Interacting with senior data analyst(s) and the product team to enhance and refine your work,
• Contributing to the upkeep of other data products,
• Interacting with internal stakeholders to promote data culture within the organization, comprising appropriate presentations and assisting stakeholders in understanding better the data and our products.

Qualifications

• You are undertaking an MSc degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Business
• You are looking for an internship lasting between 4 and 6 months
• You possess a strong analytical mindset, able to gather information, scrutinize it with attention to detail and accuracy, and make suggestions based on your findings
• You’re capable of reporting and presenting your findings
• You possess knowledge and skills in SQL and data visualization (knowledge in Python is also advantageous)
• You’re proficient in English
