In the United States, over 4,000 individuals die from unintentional drowning annually. Effective drowning prevention strategies can help mitigate these tragedies, but there remain gaps in both fatal and nonfatal drowning data. The CDC Foundation, in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services, is offering a one-year, term-limited position to improve drowning data collection and surveillance in Arizona. This role will also describe the burden and circumstances of drowning incidents in the state.
The Data Analyst will independently design, develop, and implement epidemiological surveillance, research, and evaluation to enhance drowning prevention activities. This role requires collecting detailed information on drowning circumstances from various sources and integrating it with existing data to report comprehensively on fatal and nonfatal drownings. The Analyst will work under the Division of Public Health – Prevention Services and in close collaboration with the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.
This position is hybrid with a preference for candidates based near Phoenix, AZ. While the majority of the work can be done remotely, attendance at in-person meetings and trainings in Phoenix is required. Note that relocation expenses are not covered.
The CDC Foundation facilitates the vital collaboration between the CDC, philanthropies, corporations, organizations, and individuals to protect health, safety, and security. Authorized by Congress, the CDC Foundation mobilizes private-sector resources to support CDC’s crucial health protection efforts. Managing hundreds of programs annually, the Foundation addresses various health threats, including chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and emergency responses. Visit for more information.
