Opportunity Overview: Research Analyst II - Alaska Department of Health

In the United States, unintentional drownings claim over 4,000 lives annually. To address this preventable tragedy, the CDC Foundation is collaborating with the Alaska Department of Health on an ambitious project aimed at enhancing drowning data collection and analysis. This partnership focuses on identifying, collecting, and synthesizing data to better understand the circumstances and burden of both fatal and nonfatal drowning incidents in Alaska.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the planning and execution of research studies related to drowning prevention.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to improve data collection efficiency and inform public health strategies.
  • Develop and evaluate methods to measure and interpret drowning-related data, contributing to statewide prevention efforts.
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders including internal teams, external agencies, and tribal partners on public health initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least three years of relevant experience (one year with a Master's degree), particularly in public health data analysis.
  • Proficient in statistical software such as SAS or R, and Microsoft Access.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse groups.

Position Highlights

  • Salary: $55,000 to $75,000, depending on educational background and experience
