About Alltrna

Alltrna, a pioneering company founded by Flagship, is revolutionizing tRNA biology to design innovative tRNA medicines aimed at treating both rare and common human diseases caused by shared genetic mutations. Our mission is to explore and harness tRNA biology to develop groundbreaking tRNA therapeutics, thereby regulating the protein universe and addressing various diseases. Leveraging internal expertise and proprietary machine learning tools, Alltrna aims to unlock the full potential of tRNA biology. Since its inception in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering, Alltrna has been charting new territories in the creation of single tRNA medicines that restore disrupted protein production for numerous diseases sharing the same genetic mutation. About The Role: Data Engineer, Lab Informatics

This is a unique opportunity to be an integral part of the Research Informatics team. Serving as a bridge between bench researchers and Alltrna’s data systems, you will ensure the accurate digital representation of data generated by our wet bench teams. You will also build pipelines and perform data migrations to ensure that repositories evolve with new scientific discoveries.

Digital Responsibilities

  • Maintain and customize the registry of research samples using point-and-click features or APIs to support new data types and changes to the data model.
  • Create a data model for how scientific samples will be digitally represented and integrated with resulting data.
  • Configure, administer, and train users on our ELN and LIMS (Benchling). Assist users with data queries, outputs, formatting, and running data and project dashboards.
  • Develop data pipelines to minimize manual data entry and perform programmatic data migrations during model changes.

Lab Responsibilities

  • Manage logistics for shipping samples among Alltrna teams, external vendors, and offsite storage.
  • Receive, reconcile, and store/forward incoming biological and test article samples.
  • Maintain both physical and electronic records for sample storage, location, and disposition.
  • Serve as a librarian of research samples among Alltrna teams.
  • Champion barcoding and freezer management best practices.
  • Train scientists on the ontology of research drug substances and products.
  • Manage data transfer agreements with external parties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences; training in computer science is a plus.
  • Experience with Benchling or similar ELN/LIMS; familiarity with data modeling concepts.
  • 5+ years of wet lab experience, particularly in molecular biology and/or oligonucleotide chemistry.
  • Proven experience in biological sample handling including tissues.
  • 6+ months of experience with Python and SQL.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to collect user input, identify capability gaps, and train users.
  • Proven ability to work methodically and organized, documenting all work.

What We’ll Offer You

We provide comprehensive healthcare, dental, and vision coverage, family leave, paid time off, 401k retirement plan, disability and life insurance, and fully covered parking/commuter benefits. Joining Alltrna means being part of a dynamic, early-stage environment with a highly interdisciplinary, talented, and collaborative team. You'll have the opportunity to advance tRNA medicine to restore disrupted protein production for thousands of diseases, participate in unprecedented opportunities for professional growth, and contribute to pioneering tRNA therapeutics.
