About the Role

We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to deliver world-class big data solutions and create impactful advancements for dubizzle. You will be accountable for exciting projects that cover the end-to-end data lifecycle, from raw data integrations to advanced data modeling, state-of-the-art visualization, and the development of innovative data products.

This role offers the chance to build and manage both batch and real-time data processing pipelines within a modern, cloud-based data warehousing environment. You will collaborate with various teams, such as product & tech, core business verticals, trust & safety, finance, and others, to drive success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct raw data integrations with primary and third-party systems.
  • Model data warehouses for operational and application data layers.
  • Develop in Amazon Redshift clusters with SQL as part of an agile team workflow.
  • Design and implement ETL processes in Matillion ETL.
  • Create real-time data pipelines and applications using AWS services like Lambda, Kinesis, API Gateway, REST API.
  • Design and implement data products for data-driven features or business solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, system stability, security, and coding standards in SQL, Python, and ETL design.
  • Build data dashboards and advanced visualizations in Periscope Data focusing on UX, simplicity, and usability.
  • Collaborate with other departments on data products, including product & technology, marketing & growth, finance, core business, and advertising.
  • Contribute to a strong team culture and ambition to be at the forefront of big data.
  • Work autonomously on complex projects without supervision.
  • Participate in the regular ETL status check rota.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

A top-tier technical degree in computer science, engineering, math, or physics.

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience working with customer-centric data at a big data scale, preferably in an online/e-commerce context.
  • 2+ years of experience with programming languages, especially Python.
  • Proven track record in business intelligence solutions, scaling data warehouses, and data modeling.
  • Experience with modern big data ETL tools (e.g., Matillion) is a plus.
  • Experience with AWS data ecosystem or other cloud providers.
  • Experience with modern data visualization platforms such as Sisense, Google Data Studio, Tableau, MS Power BI, etc.

Knowledge

  • Understanding modern real-time data pipelines (e.g., serverless framework, Lambda, Kinesis) is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional data models.
  • Familiarity with terminal operations and Linux workflows.

Skills

  • World-class SQL skills across various relational data warehousing technologies, particularly in cloud data warehousing (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Vertica).
  • Ability to communicate insights and findings to a non-technical audience.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
