Position Overview:

GameChanger’s Data Engineering (DE) team is crucial for acquiring and delivering high-quality data on a scalable platform. The DE team is integral to our Data and Analytics organization's mission to enable everyone at GameChanger to drive meaningful results with data.

As the Data Engineering Manager, you will lead in ingesting new data sources, optimizing pipelines, maintaining our data warehouse, platforms, and systems, and developing a roadmap to scale our infrastructure. You will also define data governance and security frameworks.

An excellent communicator, you will provide vision, set priorities, and manage daily tasks. You’ll be a leader, mentor, and hands-on technical contributor, working closely with other data teams and stakeholders to understand their needs and build systems that unlock operational efficiencies and analytic insights. This role reports to the Senior Analytics Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a distributed & remote team that thrives on high internal trust and performance.
  • Act as a player/coach, contributing technically when needed to stay close to the team’s work and effectively lead them.
  • Mentor data engineers to develop technical skills and become future leaders. Provide timely feedback, conduct design and code reviews, and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Drive the collection of new data sources, optimize existing ones, scale data platforms and pipelines, and expand governance and monitoring capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers to define and scope data needs, build and execute a technical roadmap, and support company objectives.
  • Promote responsible data practices, including setting and aligning around data governance and privacy.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in data engineering, steering the team towards best practices and standards.

Qualifications:

We are seeking someone passionate about building a high-impact team with a strong technical background.

  • At least 2 years managing data engineering teams, with a focus on mentorship, growth, and excellence.
  • Minimum 5 years of data engineering IC experience, including technical leadership.
  • Proficiency in production-grade Python code, SQL, and cloud data warehousing in Snowflake.
  • Experience with AWS, Airflow, Terraform, Snowflake, or similar technologies.
  • Strong history of leading collaborative data engineering teams to high-quality project outcomes.
  • Comfortable leading in a Lean and Agile environment.
  • Enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Kafka, Scala, Typescript, and Node.js.
  • Experience with dbt.
  • Knowledge of building Enterprise Data Catalog, Metadata, Data Governance platforms, and Master Data Management systems.
