About the Data Manager Role

The Data Manager role sits within the Data & Technology team in the Customer Team. The primary purpose of the role is to drive commercial growth through market-leading data products. Reporting to the Head of Digital Analytics, the Data Manager is responsible for producing, delivering, and performing all audience-led commercial activities. The role supports sales in delivering targeted audience-led campaigns for advertisers and manages relationships with third parties, including the Data Management Platform.

Key Responsibilities

Audience-Led Commercial Data Products

  • Own ideation and delivery for Hearst’s audience-led commercial data products.
  • Build, maintain, and refine audience segments, ensuring consistency in taxonomy.
  • Develop bespoke and productized audience solutions for all commercial teams.
  • Identify new data-led opportunities for commercial teams to proactively enter the market.
  • Collaborate with external advertisers to understand their target audiences and design effective campaigns.
  • Provide training and collateral for broader commercial teams.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations on campaign performance, insights, and recommendations.
  • Stay updated with online advertising trends, DMP capabilities, data privacy laws, and changes in the ad tech landscape.

Data Management Platform (DMP) Relationship

  • Manage the relationship and technical upkeep of the Data Management Platform.
  • Ensure maximum commercial value from the DMP relationship.

Hearst Audience Products

  • Manage and expand Hearst's commercial data products by integrating first-party data.
  • Develop strategies for first-party data collection to enhance advertiser support and campaign performance.
  • Explore opportunities for data enrichment.

Data Matching

  • Manage Data Matching setup for new advertisers, including test mapping, data enhancement strategy, and KPI communication.
  • Prepare audience segments for activation and provide insights for campaign reporting and optimization.
  • Prepare and present QBR decks for clients.

Digital Analytics

  • Support data and insight initiatives to understand user actions across our ecosystems.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide actionable insights and build reports for ongoing measurement.
  • Promote a self-serve culture by providing training and education on data usage.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience (3+ years) managing data in an online advertising context, preferably in media or magazine companies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Management Platforms (DMPs), particularly Permutive.
  • A solid understanding of Ad Serving Technology (GAM), programmatic advertising ecosystems, and audience segmentation techniques.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations pertinent to online advertising.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting data to inform business decisions.
  • Proficiency in using analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker Studio).
