Job Opportunity: Data Manager at University of Global Health Equity (UGHE)

Position Title: Data Manager

Reports to: Chair, Center for Population Health

Location: UGHE Butaro Campus, with travel to Kigali, Rwanda

About the Center for Population Health at UGHE

The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is an initiative by Partners In Health (PIH), a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality health care to underserved communities. UGHE's Center for Population Health, recently established, focuses on teaching, training, and research in population health. This center is set to introduce a Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) in Butaro, which will collect essential data on disease surveillance, morbidity, mortality, chronic diseases, nutrition, maternal and child health in Rwanda.

Role and Responsibilities

The Data Manager will oversee data collection, storage, and analysis for Butaro HDSS. We are searching for candidates with a robust background in data management and analytics, who possess the ability to handle large datasets efficiently.

Main Duties:

  • Manage data collection processes for research projects at Butaro HDSS.
  • Develop data quality standards and management plans.
  • Supervise data entry and perform data cleaning tasks.
  • Prepare study data for analysis using statistical software packages.
  • Analyze data to generate insights and support interim-study decisions.
  • Provide statistical support during proposal development, data analysis, and reporting of study findings.
  • Develop and maintain multiple databases for Butaro HDSS and related studies.
  • Collaborate with field data collectors, enumerators, research assistants, and the HDSS cohort manager.
  • Support statistical analysis, design, and reporting for research studies at the Institute of Global Health Equity Research (IGHER).
  • Perform additional tasks as designated by the supervisor.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • An MSc degree in a related field (e.g., statistics, computer science, epidemiology).
  • 5+ years of experience in data management and analysis.
  • Experience with large datasets, preferably in population-based longitudinal studies.
  • Strong proficiency in STATA, R, and other quantitative data analysis platforms.
  • A record of publications demonstrating capacity in health research.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
