We are looking for a Data Scientist (4509) to work for our client, the European Commission, remotely.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify relationships and connections between area errors, claimed interventions, and payment decisions.
  • Identify key factors behind area errors (e.g., terrain, parcel size and shape, etc.) and analyze their statistical distribution.
  • Generate overall statistics of the data submitted by member states applying the Union level methodology in the context of Qa4CAP.
  • Contribute to the gradual improvement of the above-mentioned Union-level methodology by performing sensitivity analysis, parameter calibration, and optimization of various elements of the methodology.
  • Analyze how the sample size affects the estimation of the area error.
  • Identify spatial patterns and temporal trends.
  • Ensure that the data on the quality assessments submitted by Member States are complete and consistent.
  • Collaborate with the Qa4CAP team in the structuring and improvement of the spatial database.
  • Collaborate with the Qa4CAP team in the development of a statistical framework for the Union level methodology and in other analyses.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Contribute to scientific papers.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Statistics and spatial statistics
  • Excellent ability to process, combine, and analyze spatial data
  • Excellent knowledge of a programming language (Python or R) for data analysis
  • Good knowledge of data mining
  • Basic knowledge of GIS tools
  • Basic knowledge of remote sensing products to monitor agriculture
  • Basic knowledge of relational databases
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbally and in written form
  • Experience in the production of scientific and technical documentation (in English)
  • Ability to work with the confidentiality required by the sensitivity of the project

Specific Expertise

  • Expertise in data science (statistics, data mining) and statistical tools or languages (R, Python)
  • At least 3 years of specific expertise in spatial data analysis
  • At least 3 years of specific expertise in relational databases (e.g., PostreSQL)
