The Role: Data Scientist – Generative AI

Every Scientist on Target’s Data Sciences teams will engage in data modeling, software/product development of high-performance code, and applying retail domain knowledge. Responsibilities:

  • Perform data exploration and analysis
  • Implement algorithmic solutions adhering to best practices in model development
  • Follow foundational programming principles and create maintainable and tested codebases
  • Develop in approved programming languages such as Python, R, or Java
  • Adhere to good practices in data analysis and understanding
  • Implement prototypes and leverage data structures and algorithms
  • Understand high-level business priorities and specific business sub-problems
  • Collaborate with peers, document, and present work effectively
  • Participate in code reviews to gain a broader understanding of different components within the application

About You:

You should have a 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent work experience. Strong fundamentals in Probability, Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Machine Learning modeling are essential.

Key Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in domains such as generative AI, statistical learning, optimization, NLP, deep learning, or time series analysis
  • Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Foundations in mathematics and programming - data structures and design principles
  • Hands-on programming skills in Python, R, or Java
  • Ability to produce detailed documentation and actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills for data-driven storytelling
  • Self-driven and results-oriented team player with the ability to collaborate across geographies/time zones

This position operates under a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement, meaning your role will require both onsite and virtual presence, based on Target’s business needs.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this role is $72,100.00 - $129,800.00. Pay is based on several factors, including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
