The Digital Data Science team forms part of the AI and Analytics organization within Novo Nordisk’s Data Science division. We tackle some of the most challenging problems in healthcare research and development, applying advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques. Through close collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and external partners, we ensure access to the latest research and technology to deliver breakthrough treatments.

The Position

The Data Scientist II will contribute to cutting-edge technology research and data science within our arenas. The role involves data collection, preparation, engineering, and software development. The Data Scientist II will develop and validate algorithms and models, operating with a high degree of initiative and independence.

Relationships

The Data Scientist II reports to the Director of Digital Data Science and interacts with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in the US and Denmark. Internal collaborators include data scientists, engineers, software developers, medical experts, and IT professionals. External collaborators include commercial and academic partners.

Essential Functions

  • Scientific Work:
    • Support development and validation of algorithms based on digital device data and therapeutic algorithms following best practices and emerging AI/ML research.
    • Maintain and integrate local and cloud-based data environments and platforms, merging data and solutions from different sources.
    • Develop data pipelines (data acquisition, preparation, cleaning, and consolidation) as part of the data science workflow.
    • Collaborate with other Data Scientists and engineers to ensure progress on various projects.
    • Design, code, train, test, deploy, and iterate on machine learning systems in collaboration with colleagues.
    • Propose and implement improvement initiatives to enhance team collaboration and methodologies.
    • Engage with stakeholders to understand challenges, identify areas for innovation, and build tailored solutions.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams to develop AI and ML solutions to achieve business goals, sharing knowledge and learnings.
  • Occasionally collaborate with external partners.

Physical Requirements

Up to 10% overnight travel required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in computer science, data science, biomedical/electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 1+ years with a Master’s degree.
    • Experience with data science approaches for connected/wearable devices and digital therapeutics.
    • Proficiency in digital signal processing and time-series data analysis.
    • Familiarity with end-to-end data science tools, including Python/R.
    • Preferred: strong written and oral communication skills, ability to perform in-depth data analysis, experience with CI/CD, containerization, cloud infrastructure, IoT/Edge deployment, data management, SQL/NoSQL/Graph databases, and experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare industries.
