Waymark is a collaboration between healthcare providers, technologists, and builders with a mission to deliver optimal healthcare to individuals with Medicaid benefits. Informed by the communities we serve, we provide support and technological healthcare solutions to aid primary healthcare providers in maintaining the health of Medicaid patients. We are in the process of creating tools and a care approach enabling us to reach the most susceptible patients.

Our fundamental values reflect what makes Waymark unique today and what we seek to foster and maintain as a team. We are brave builders, convinced that the power of community and technology can solve the most profound challenges in healthcare delivery. As humble learners, we embrace feedback and alternative perspectives, and we are open to having our conclusions questioned. We are committed to improving through experimentation, actively looking for data to make informed decisions and evaluate our results. Driven by our commitment to our mission, we tirelessly seek results, acting with a focused sense of urgency.

About this role

Our 2024 data science roadmap involves building various AI systems, powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), to augment Medicaid patient care. For success, it's crucial to have the active involvement of all data scientists, as well as other stakeholders such as our data science leader, product and engineering leaders, and operations/clinical leaders. The day-to-day responsibilities will involve defining problems, documenting product requirements, engaging stakeholders, designing solutions, coding, conducting peer reviews, evaluating tools and metrics, validating solutions, and eventually delivering LLM data science products for clinical use. This senior role requires broad collaboration with hands-on work, from understanding the problem with stakeholders to documenting solutions, mentoring junior data scientists, and coding daily. Your expertise and experience will be fundamental in shaping our data science future and cultivating a team culture rooted in creativity, resourcefulness, knowledge sharing, timely delivery, accountability, and a unified 'all hands on deck' approach.

We conduct a real-time coding and data science exam during our interview process, as well as a take-home test.

Responsibilities

Document Detailed Technical Requirements for LLM AI Systems:

Develop detailed technical specifications for several Large Language Models (LLM) AI systems, outlining the architecture, algorithms, and functionalities. You will be involved in various LLM AI systems, documenting their needs and working with junior data scientists to build, guide, and ensure the timely delivery of quality solutions.

Collaborate with Data Science Lead to Organize Delivery Timeline:

Collaborate closely with the data science lead to deconstruct project tasks and establish a clear delivery timeline. Assure alignment with project objectives and deadlines.

Mentor Junior Data Scientists to Enhance Their Skills:

Offer guidance and mentorship to junior data scientists, helping them enhance their technical skills and problem-solving capacity.

Hands-on Coding:

Dedicate considerable time to hands-on coding [at least 5-6 hours daily], actively contributing to the creation and implementation of LLM AI systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in data science or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant healthcare-related experience
  • At least 5 years of Python proficiency
  • Over 5 years of hands-on experience with machine learning applications
  • At least 3 years of experience with AWS tools, particularly SageMaker
  • Evidence of data science abilities as shown by GitHub repositories or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in natural language processing, with exposure to common open-source tools for creating LLM products such as JumpStart, LangChain, Llama Index, HuggingFace, and other LLM models
  • At least 3 years of experience in writing technical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, with at least 2 years of experience mentoring junior data scientists
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience managing diverse data science projects, including technical design, development, and testing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Between 2-5 years of relevant experience applying Large Language Models (LLMs)
