Role Overview

As a data scientist at FT, you will help research and build machine learning models that enable us to acquire and retain more subscribers. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about problem solving to advance within our growing data science team.

Collaboration lays at the core of how we work. Smaller teams of up to three data scientists collaborate on projects, working alongside developers, product managers, marketers and journalists. We believe that a diverse set of opinions and backgrounds generate superior ideas and quicker problem-solving. Our tech stack varies depending on the project and deployment, but usually includes R or Python, alongside Google BigQuery or AWS Redshift. Being a media company, we place significant importance on clear and engaging explanations of our projects and models.

We have the privilege of working on a broad range of ideas from across the FT. In the past, these have included recommending content topics for each user based on their reading habits, predicting which subscribers will cancel their subscriptions, and using facial recognition to monitor the gender balance of homepage images.
