Role Overview: Director Data Sciences

As the Director of Data Sciences, you’ll help develop state-of-the-art predictive algorithms that harness data at scale to automate and optimize decisions. Whether your expertise lies in Statistics, Optimization, or Machine Learning, you’ll face the challenging task of leveraging Target’s extensive data to develop solutions our partners in Marketing, Supply Chain Optimization, Network Security, and Personalization rely on.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead data science products that align with the Merchandising function’s business priorities.
• Optimize Space, Product-flow, and Shelf-placement for items across 1900+ Target stores.
• Develop solutions that identify optimal space, store layout, and shelf-placement to maximize sales and profitability.
• Leverage machine learning techniques to support decision modeling for Target’s private label brands.
• Provide direction to a diverse and highly engaged team of data scientists, focusing on continuous upskilling and learning.
• Collaborate with senior leaders and business partners to influence and guide the data science roadmap for merchandising at Target.

Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Advanced Statistics, Physics, Biosciences, Operations Research or Computer Science.
• Strong academic foundations in Probability Theory, Real Analysis, and Linear Algebra.
• 10+ years of experience deploying algorithms in production environments, with at least 4+ years of leading data science teams.
• Deep understanding of Merchandising business processes is advantageous.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to debate ideas from both a business and mathematical perspective.
• Proven ability to influence data roadmaps and collaborate with various business teams and stakeholders.
• Strong negotiation skills.
