Meta is actively seeking Research Scientists to join our Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) organization. We are dedicated to advancing AI technology and contributing to the academic and open-source communities through groundbreaking research and innovative tools. Recent projects include the LLaMa family of Large Language Models (LLMs) and tool-augmented language models.

About the Role

We are looking for skilled researchers, particularly those with experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), to enhance multimodal (vision+language) reasoning. Successful candidates will:

• Publish state-of-the-art research papers
• Open source high-quality code with reproducible results
• Apply the latest research to Facebook products, impacting billions of users

Collaborate with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners, using cutting-edge technology and resources.

Responsibilities

• Lead research extending the capabilities of foundation models through reasoning and tools
• Pursue long-term ambitious research goals while identifying intermediate milestones
• Influence relevant research communities through impactful publications
• Contribute research applicable to Meta product development
• Lead and collaborate on globally based research projects

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• PhD in NLP, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 4+ years of experience in NLP or Machine Learning in industry, academia, or government labs
• First-author publications in peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR)
• Experience with training, fine-tuning, and experimenting with foundation models beyond black-box use
• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Experience communicating complex research to public audiences
• Proficiency in a programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• High-impact publications in peer-reviewed AI conferences
• Experience in AI research beyond completing a PhD
• Skills in developing and debugging beyond Machine Learning experimentation
• Familiarity with industry research environments
• Experience coordinating research among PhD students or other researchers

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $177,000 to $251,000, which may be supplemented with bonuses, equity, and benefits. The specific compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
