Job Description

We are currently seeking a visionary Head of Data to lead our centralized data functions at Square. This pivotal role encompasses overseeing Data Science + Analytics, Machine Learning, and Data Engineering teams. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering & Data, you will play a critical role in crafting and executing Square’s overarching data strategy.

Responsibilities Include:

• Defining the strategic direction and developing a comprehensive technical roadmap for Square’s data platform, focusing on scalability, reliability, and precision.
• Managing various data-centered functions—GTM Data, Data Science & Analytics, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning—to ensure alignment with Square's strategic goals.
• Setting the standards for data governance, including principles for data access, accuracy, and timeliness across all data-centric teams.
• Promoting a culture of agility, transparency, and continual improvement, which fuels product innovation and operational excellence.
• Generating impactful insights that aid cross-functional partners in decision-making and enhance business performance.
• Implementing customer-centric data practices to align engineering and analytics with user needs and experiences.
• Recruiting, developing, and retaining a superior data team, capable of meeting Square’s growing data needs.

Qualifications:

• Over 15 years of relevant experience in Data Analytics, Data Engineering, or Machine Learning, with at least 10 years in managerial roles overseeing substantial data teams.
• Proven success in leading data-focused teams, demonstrated ability to nurture talent, and a track record of building high-performing data organizations.
• Deep expertise in advanced data strategies and a solid grasp of data architecture principles.
• Strong skills in SQL, Looker, Python, and other data technologies and tools.
• Excellent ability to communicate the significance of data strategies to stakeholders at all levels across the organization.
