The Summer Internship

At Discord, we provide a customized internship experience, aiming to replicate the real-work environment. We match competent interns with suitable projects and teams, influenced by their interests and skills, and fully integrate them into these teams for the summer.

The internships are paid and last for a minimum of 12 weeks, commencing in June 2024 to accommodate varying academic calendars. If conditions allow, our 2024 summer internships will be conducted remotely, with the chance to spend a week in the office at some point during the program.

The Team:

At Discord, the Machine Learning and Causal Inference Data Science team helps to shape product strategies, improve decision-making processes, and generate value for customers using advanced Machine Learning and Causal Inference techniques. We closely collaborate with key product domains across Discord, such as user experience, safety, revenue, ecosystem, and marketing.

Your Role:

• Employing advanced causal inference techniques for deeper insights into users and the product.
• Utilizing sound mathematical, statistical, and algorithmic principles along with innovative solutions to address challenging issues.
• Cooperating with other data science, product, engineering, and business teams to ensure that the developed causal inference solutions are highly relevant and impactful.

You'll Excel In This Role If...

• You're currently pursuing a MS/PhD in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or a related technical field.
• You have experience in at least one of the following Causal Inference areas:
  • Carrying out experimentation (A/B testing) at a large tech company.
  • Implementing and analyzing quasi-experimental methods.
  • Using non-experimental, observational methods (e.g., difference in difference, propensity score matching, regression discontinuity).
  • Applying advanced causal inference Machine Learning methods (e.g., Causal Forests, causal knn).
• You have experience in writing or implementing code-based Causal Inference models/solutions as part of your coursework, personal projects, internships, competitions, or research.
• You have proficient programming skills in Python and SQL.

Compensation of $77/hour (for Master's students) and $90/hour (for PhD students) *Note: This is as required by the NYC Pay Transparency Law and CO Disclosure (as required by sb19-085[8-5-20]).
