Bosch has had a presence in Malaysia since 1923, represented by Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd. In Malaysia, Bosch operates in four business sectors: Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. The company has three manufacturing sites and research and development offices in Penang, where it produces automotive electronics, power tools and steering systems. A fourth plant and final sensor and semiconductor testing centre will soon be opening. In 2020, Bosch Malaysia generated consolidated sales of RM 518.4 million (108.1 million euros) and currently has more than 4,000 employees.
The PgP5 Plant, the newest addition to the Bosch Group in Malaysia, is a semiconductor test site in Batu Kawan Penang. Construction began in May 2021, with the first production series set to commence in 2023. Due to long-term forecasts predicting a growth in semiconductor component quantities, coupled with front-end production at Bosch's facility in Dresden, Germany, a capacity expansion was needed for back-end production, including the final testing of semiconductors and sensors. The primary focus of the PgP5 plant will be the final testing of components manufactured at the Bosch Automotive Electronics factory in Dresden, Germany. The plant will also contain research and development and training facilities.
