Job Description

The Data Science Lead will be part of the VCA Data Science team in Asia Pacific and will report to the Head of Data Science overseeing the IPVMC cluster. The position will be based in the Visa office in Indonesia.

The role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of analytical strategies and influential solutions for Visa's clients. The individual should have deep expertise in banking and payments, and a robust background in data science to solve complex problems and unlock business value.

Key responsibilities involve:

  • Leading, executing and delivering data science projects for Indonesian clients.
  • Defining detailed scope and methodology, designing and creating solutions, executing frameworks leveraging appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Building strong relationships with Visa's partners and clients, and respective data science and analytics teams to foster collaboration and implementation of Visa's recommendations, tracking impact.
  • Maintaining standards and quality control of data science work, keeping all project documentation current.
  • Proactively seeking innovation opportunities through Visa's data, client's data, and non-traditional data according to our client's needs.
  • Improving existing data science techniques by advocating new methodologies and best practices in the field.
  • Promoting thought leadership in the data science domain and building intellectual property through innovation.
  • Effective client interaction and managing communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentoring, guiding and overseeing data scientists in the team.

Qualifications

We are seeking a driven, analytically minded candidate with a history of leveraging data science and analytics to unlock business value. Successful candidates should have diverse industry experience, be interested in the payments industry and application of data analytics, and be motivated by results and customer service.
- Degree (Masters or Ph.D. preferred) in a Quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, or Engineering, or equivalent experience
- At least 10 years of professional experience in banking, payments, or a related industry
- Hands-on experience with data analytics/programming tools like SAS/Salford SPM/Hadoop/R/SQL/Python/Hive, and working knowledge of the Hadoop ecosystem
- Proficiency in statistical techniques: Neural Networks, Gradient Boosting, Linear & Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forests, Markov Chains, Support Vector Machines, Clustering, Principal Component Analysis, Factor Analysis, etc.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing, and managing multiple concurrent analytics projects with diverse, cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong team and client management skills with a collaborative, diplomatic, flexible style, able to work effectively in a matrixed organization
- Exceptional presentation and storytelling abilities, including strong oral and written skills
- Proficient in creating storyboards and telling stories with data, including strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Local market experience and/or knowledge of local language, culture, and industry regulations

What would also be helpful:
- In-depth understanding of the payments and/or banking industry including consumer credit, consumer debit, small business, commercial, co-brand, and merchant
- Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong commercial acumen, with experience in working on business/value cases that prove ROI
