Here is a glimpse of what you can expect in this role:

  • Offer thought leadership on industry best practice regarding data science solutions and incorporating them into a business.
  • Develop strategic team direction and provide roadmaps for long term Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities
  • Offer strategic input to the business on opportunities for value growth through data science
  • Identify and evaluate internal and external partnership opportunities and lead data-related conversations and negotiations for the organization.
  • Lead projects and establish relationships with internal teams to determine questions, issues, and opportunities for data analysis and experiments.
  • Enhance the capability of the team through leadership, coaching, development and performance management
  • Identify the necessary building blocks, their interfacing with each other and other parts of the technology stack, and how the critical components will function
  • Collaborate with our data engineering and technology teams to identify the right big data infrastructure to support our future ambitions
  • Liaise with business partners and delivery teams to ensure algorithms are effectively delivered and implemented into production systems
  • Interpret analysis and model results in a business context and provide specific recommendations for new content development.
  • Direct a team of data scientists to:
  • Understand the key dimensions of the variants that the business aims to test
  • Build the system to make the decisions, identify what was successful, and make improved choices in the future
  • Develop and upkeep advanced statistical and machine learning models
  • Assume responsibility for end-to-end data science execution including scoping, building, testing, implementation, maintenance, tracking and optimization of predictive models on the GCP platform.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all development.

Qualifications

Now, let’s talk about you:

  • Lead a team of Data Scientists to deliver scalable Advanced Analytics solutions
  • 7 to 10 years experience in developing predictive models in commercial environments, preferably with exposure to merchandising and marketing.
  • Experience in developing machine learning algorithms to drive top-notch commercial results.
  • Proven commercial experience in statistical and machine learning modeling, along with experience in launching models in production on the cloud.
  • Advanced working knowledge of analytical programming: Python (preferred) or R, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouse platforms such as BigQuery
  • Proficiency in SQL is essential; experience with Azure or GCP is preferred.
  • Experience in working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Robust analytical skills with the ability to gather, organize, analyze and disseminate substantial amounts of information attentively and accurately.
  • Comfortable with qualitative segmentation approaches and an ability to translate this into actionable features and tests
  • Prior experience in retail vertical markets would be advantageous (but not essential)
  • Tertiary qualified in relevant disciplines (Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science). Prior experience in a commercial/business support or data/insights analyst role coupled with relevant tertiary qualifications.
