About the Role: Machine Learning Engineer

Invitae is on the lookout for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to enhance our Applied AI team. Your role will involve leveraging your expertise in Python, machine learning infrastructure, and model development to tackle complex business challenges. You will play an essential part in creating production-ready ML models, improving patient outcomes, and advancing the healthcare sector.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance machine learning models and systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into ML solutions.
• Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of deployed models, based on user feedback and industry advancements.
• Implement advanced machine learning techniques to solve critical business problems and upgrade our genetic testing capabilities.
• Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of ML infrastructure.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• A minimum of 5 years of software development experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or 1 year with a PhD in AI, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
• Proficiency in one or more technical stacks, from infrastructure to application code, and familiarity with training and evaluation frameworks in ML engineering. (Our stack includes AWS, Azure, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, spaCy, FastAPI, KServe, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, and New Relic.)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and model serving.
• Effective collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Experience with large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with MLOps best practices and tools for model versioning and deployment.
• Knowledge of genetics or experience within the healthcare domain.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position offers a competitive salary range of $141,500—$174,000 USD, subject to variation based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
