Why Join the BMW Group's PhD Program?

We offer an intellectually stimulating and varied PhD program in Artificial Intelligence, specifically focusing on the hardware optimization of End-to-End Autonomous Driving systems. Unlike traditional modular systems, End-to-End approaches reduce information loss and error propagation. You'll focus on the industrial application of these models, bringing innovative research to life on edge devices.

What Awaits You?

• Conduct research on the deployment and hardware optimization of cutting-edge Machine Learning methods, with a focus on End-to-End models for Autonomous Driving.
• Design hardware-centric network topologies to create real-time systems using multiple sensor inputs, such as cameras and radars.
• Deploy models on specialized System-on-Chips (SoCs) for in-vehicle tests and perform real-world, closed-loop evaluations of your deployments.
• Collaborate with an experienced team of researchers and Machine Learning engineers at our Garching and Unterschleißheim facilities.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, or related fields.
• Strong background in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Low-Level Sensor Fusion. Previous publications in top conferences are a plus.
• Proficiency in programming with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Docker, and Git.
• Hands-on experience in deploying neural networks (e.g., OpenVino, TensorRT, Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK).
• Experience with software implementations for hardware accelerators like CUDA and OpenCL is desirable.
• Problem-solving skills, teamwork, and excellent English communication skills. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
