Job Opportunity: Physical Design Lead, AI/ML at Google Cloud

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience:

• 16 years in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and IP/chip design, physical design including floorplanning, placement, routing, clock tree synthesis, and power optimization.
• Experience collaborating with EDA vendors and cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of new methodologies and tools.
• Proven track record in solving physical design issues using AI/ML algorithms and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing AI/ML models for physical design optimization.
• Proficiency with cloud-based Machine Learning (ML) frameworks and tools.
• Experience in leading and mentoring technical teams.
• Understanding of hardware acceleration platforms (e.g., GPUs, TPUs).
• In-depth knowledge of physical design principles, EDA tools, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, Tcl), and industry-standard physical design flows.
• Excellent problem-solving, investigative, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the Google DeepMind team on AI models (e.g., large language model (LLM), Gemini, and other Machine Learning tools).
• Lead a team of physical design engineers and AI/ML specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Build and deploy AI/ML-driven tools and frameworks that automate and optimize physical design tasks to improve design quality, efficiency, and turnaround time.
• Research, develop, and implement AI/ML algorithms and models for various aspects of physical design, such as floorplanning, placement, routing, clock tree synthesis, and power optimization.
• Work in close collaboration with circuit designers, analog integration engineers, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of AI/ML-driven methodologies into the overall hardware development process.
• Evaluate and optimize AI/ML models and algorithms to enhance their accuracy, efficiency, and applicability to real-world physical design issues.
• Lead efforts to integrate AI/ML models and methodologies into Google's hardware development workflow.
