Overview:

At Oak Ridge National Laboratory, we are on the lookout for an ambitious Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in AI and Machine Learning. This role is crucial for developing and applying machine learning algorithms tailored for autonomous experimental laboratories within our Data NanoAnalytics (DNA) group.

Role Description:

In your new role, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team at ORNL and partnering universities to enhance human-in-the-loop autonomous experimental workflows. Your contributions will include implementing these algorithms in automated instruments, such as scanning probe and/or scanning transmission electron microscopes, and managing extensive data and analysis pipelines.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and apply advanced machine learning algorithms to foster autonomous and human-in-the-loop processes that boost efficiency and scientific discovery.
  • Distribute new codes in a documented, modular fashion for use by academic and research partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience with machine learning in physical, biological, or chemical sciences.
  • Proficiency in Python programming with a proven track record of contributions to online code repositories.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with databases and computational workflows.
  • Background in autonomous experimental settings or self-driving laboratories.

Candidates must not have received their PhD more than five years prior to the application date and must complete all degree requirements before beginning their appointment.
