Job expired!

Are you a devoted researcher with a keen interest in pioneering projects at the intersection of machine learning and gas dynamics?

Become a part of the SMARTSENS project, sponsored by the Win2Wal initiative of the Service Public de Wallonie. They aim to innovate micro-sensors that can potentially revolutionize gas concentration monitoring in varying environments, from industrial sites to storage facilities. This exciting initiative is a partnership between the Haute Ecole Louvain en Hainaut's CeREF research center, the University of Namur, and the resourceful Belgian start-up, VocSENS, a front-runner in remote gas sensing solutions and data collection.

The SMARTSENS project takes advantage of CeREF's proficiencies in edge computing and the University of Namur's skills in machine learning. The main emphasis is on the localized application of models with stringent consumption limits, thereby offering a unique and influential opportunity for researchers in the field.

Your Role:

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will participate in a collaborative research undertaking that's already live between an academic lab, a research center, and a company to develop and fine-tune innovative machine learning models for gas concentration prediction. The project's aspiration is to improve the efficacy of cost-effective hardware and amalgamate basic principles of gas dynamics within the machine learning models.

The researcher will be accountable for:

  • Developing and applying advanced machine learning algorithms for precise gas concentration prediction.
  • Refining machine learning models to function efficiently on low-resource hardware.
  • Incorporating the basic physical laws governing gas dynamics into state-of-the-art machine learning models.
  • Collaborating closely with experts in the field to incorporate their knowledge into the model development.
  • Thoroughly evaluating machine learning models for accuracy and performance.
  • Spreading ground-breaking research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Your Profile & Qualifications:

REQUIRED

  • PhD in Machine Learning or a related field.
  • An initial postdoc experience would be appreciated, but it's not obligatory. We are in search of candidates who can smoothly transition into a new project and who are enthusiastic to learn and collaborate.
  • Machine learning
  • Mathematical modeling
  • Capability to collaborate with diverse domain experts
  • Quick to adapt to autonomy
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent collaborative skills to work effectively with domain experts.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English (both verbal and written), mandatory, with French and/or Dutch knowledge considered an advantage.

DESIRABLE

  • Deep learning
  • Sensor data processing
  • Domain knowledge in gas dynamics
  • The ability to work with cost-effective hardware

Benefits:

  • Competitive along with a comprehensive benefits package.
  • The opportunity to be in the front line of pioneering research projects.
  • Collaborate with well-known experts in machine learning and gas dynamics.
  • Publish your research results in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
