Role Overview:

We are actively seeking an experienced Principal Data Analytics Engineer to enhance our Data Engineering team. This role focuses on expanding our data modeling capabilities utilizing dbt within our robust tech environment that includes Snowflake, Looker, and an internally developed ETL pipeline via Airflow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain advanced, scalable data models in dbt to support our core data initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across CarGurus to define and execute business requirements for data projects.
• Implement and manage self-service data models using Looker.
• Establish and promote data modeling best practices, along with comprehensive documentation and testing protocols.
• Provide mentorship and conduct code reviews for junior team members.
• Lead architectural decisions and enforce best practices within the Snowflake ecosystem.
• Engage with key business leaders to support complex data-driven initiatives.
• Manage platform-related tasks such as permission settings, metadata management, and general maintenance of the data warehouse and Looker platform.

What You'll Bring:

• A minimum of 7 years in roles like Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with complex data modeling using dbt or equivalent tools.
• Expertise in SQL and experience with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Familiarity with BI platforms (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, or similar) and Data Observability Tools.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A keen interest in mentoring junior engineers within the Analytics Engineering team.
• Familiarity with Python is a plus.
