Widely used across the ArcGIS platform, the Living Atlas is quickly becoming the backbone of web GIS. As a data-focused Product Engineer, you will create data migration workflows and information products using near real-time data sources like satellite information, weather models, and open data sources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small team to develop, publish, and maintain global datasets as cloud-based web services for mapping and analysis.
  • Work closely with software developers, technical support, and other internal stakeholders to improve existing workflows.
  • Administer, automate, and manage GIS systems and services to support the development of new product features and ongoing product releases.
  • Integrate new data sources, update existing services, and innovate new methodologies for publishing and consuming Living Atlas services.
  • Engineer workflows that enhance data processing efficiency, fostering more informed decision-making within the GIS community.
  • Develop and implement test plans and test cases, write test code, verify code changes, and apply bug fixes to maintain product quality.
  • Troubleshoot and triage issues reported by customers, analyzing user feedback to identify areas of improvement.
  • Investigate emerging trends and techniques for modeling live feed information to better serve the ArcGIS community's needs.
  • Prepare documentation, videos, blogs, white papers, and other materials that guide customers, partners, and internal collaborators.
  • Team with organizations such as NOAA, USDA, NCAR, NASA, ESA, and other key content creators to incorporate their data into the Living Atlas.
  • Support Esri’s development teams in integrating Living Atlas services across the ArcGIS platform.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with ArcGIS software, particularly geoprocessing tools in data management, analysis, interoperability (ETL workflows), spatial analyst, and statistical toolboxes.
  • 1+ years of experience with high-level programming languages, including Python.
  • Experience working with command-line Windows or Unix environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively document and present relevant details about the data behind Living Atlas services to users.
  • Experience managing and analyzing large, complex datasets.
  • Ability to design and implement production workflows for near real-time data updates.
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, information technology, computer science, GIS, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcGIS raster and mosaic datasets.
  • Understanding of computer hardware architecture and operating systems.
  • Master's degree in data science, information technology, computer science, GIS, or a related discipline.

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $72,800—$124,800 USD.
