About the Team

The Growth & Commerce Data Science & Engineering team is crucial in driving and accelerating Netflix's global membership and revenue growth. We leverage data, experimentation, and machine learning to develop persuasive conversion and monetization experiences throughout the membership lifecycle—from the signup flow to post-signup commerce experiences to optimize revenue per member.

About the Role

As a Senior Research Engineer, you will join a stellar team of data scientists, analytics engineers, and ML scientists to lead the development of algorithm-driven experience optimization systems. This is a greenfield area with potential for impactful applications at Netflix’s scale. You will be responsible for operating and innovating these algorithms in a production setting. Validating these through offline experiments and conducting online A/B tests will also be key parts of your role. Collaboration with ML engineers, scientists, and product managers on cross-functional initiatives is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate high-impact machine learning models in Growth & Commerce
  • Partner with cross-functional Growth leads and business analysts to identify high-value ML applications and translate business intuition into data-driven solutions
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers to implement end-to-end solutions at scale
  • Inform and influence the development of better infrastructure for developing and deploying ML models
  • Advocate and apply best practices in availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management

Qualifications

  • Deep end-to-end ML experience with a strong track record of deploying successful ML solutions
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to clearly explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional partners
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, strong ownership mindset, and thrive with minimal oversight
  • Willingness to rapidly absorb business context within the complex payments ecosystem
  • Strong experience with ML/DL frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, Keras, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Excellent software engineering skills in Scala, Java, and Python
  • PhD or Master's in Computer Science or a related field preferred
  • Experience with causal ML or reinforcement learning is a plus
  • Experience with Growth, Notifications, or other targeting systems is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

Netflix offers a competitive compensation structure with an annual salary ranging from $170,000 to $720,000. Employees choose each year how to allocate their compensation between salary and stock options. We consider market indicators, job family, background, skills, and experience to determine compensation within the market range.
