Project Focus

As a Research Intern, you will collaborate with our team on using Large Language Models (LLMs) to analyze extensive research data. Uncover the 'known-unknowns' to aid scientific breakthroughs by synthesizing current knowledge, formulating meaningful questions, and helping researchers develop novel hypotheses. LLMs will help construct comprehensive worldviews of various scientific fields, understanding breakthroughs, and forming insights on potential future innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with world-class researchers and mentors to advance exciting research and development strides.
  • Engage in a 12-week immersive internship with opportunities to learn, network, and present findings.
  • Work across a multi-disciplinary team to shape the direction of your research project based on areas that excite you most.
  • Utilize LLMs to analyze vast amounts of scientific research.
  • Devise techniques to identify gaps in current scientific knowledge.
  • Leverage literature to propose new hypotheses and techniques for addressing current gaps.
  • Create personalized knowledge dashboards to help researchers efficiently navigate through extensive research data.
  • Build a personalized research copilot to accelerate productivity and findings.
  • Design approaches to augment experimentation capabilities by helping researchers rule out ideas quickly using scientific knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other teams across Microsoft on various scientific discovery approaches.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
  • 1+ years of experience working in Python.

Other Requirements

  • Research Interns must be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite during the internship.
  • Submit a minimum of two reference letters along with your application.

Preferred

  • Experience with GPT-4 and beyond.
  • Proven ability in building apps or experiences leveraging NLP, data science, and machine learning.
  • Self-starter with an ability to move fast.

The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,290 - $12,170 per month, with specific ranges applicable in the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan areas. Roles may also offer benefits and other compensation. Find additional pay details .
