Role Overview: Make an Impact with Wayve's Science Team
The Science team at Wayve is dedicated to advancing end-to-end autonomous driving research. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to AV2.0 and secure the future success of Wayve by incubating and investing in groundbreaking technological innovations. As the first Research Manager at our Mountain View office, you'll oversee and expand a talented Science team working on the Wayve Foundational Model in collaboration with our teams in London and Vancouver.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and scaling a robust Science team.
- Coaching and guiding researchers and engineers.
- Collaborating with company leaders to ensure sustainable career growth.
- Driving industry-leading impact through project-based initiatives.
- Identifying and investing in the right projects, allocating resources efficiently, providing technical feedback, and building strong alignment within the Science organization.
We are actively expanding our research team significantly over the next two years, and your leadership will be pivotal to this growth.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Skills:
- Experience managing research teams (10-15+ people) with a strong interest in management.
- Passion for fostering personal and professional growth in team members.
- Proficiency in roadmap planning, stakeholder management, and aligning towards milestones and deliverables.
- Deep knowledge of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision.
- Proven industry experience with machine learning technology that has impacted real-world products.
- Experience guiding a team through the full lifecycle of technical projects, ideally in the language, vision, or multimodal space.
- Passion for transforming research concepts into products.
- Strong research and engineering fundamentals.
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience managing the execution of technical products.
- Familiarity with a project-based (“matrix”) operating environment.
- Track record of successful research projects and publications.
- Experience in robotics, self-driving, AR/VR, or LLMs.
