As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Gemini Human Data team. This role is critical in enhancing Google’s cutting-edge multi-modal GenAI through expert data analysis and innovative research methodologies.

About the Role

As a Research Scientist at DeepMind, you will:

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of experts specializing in training data to source and monitor the quality of data from human raters.
• Apply this data to refine AI models through supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning processes.
• Develop and implement evaluation metrics to assess improvements in model performance, ensuring the AI's interaction and truthfulness meet our high standards.
• Balance complex metrics and make informed decisions to optimize model quality across various dimensions such as factuality, style, and safety.
• Engage with external collaborators, maintaining strong connections with leading research labs and key stakeholders to advance our technology ethically.
• Work closely with Ethics and Governance teams to ensure all developments align with our commitment to ethical standards and societal benefits.

Who You Are

To excel in this role, ideal candidates will possess:

• A PhD in Machine Learning or a closely related field.
• Extensive experience with training and deploying Large Language Models or Generative AI at scale in a real-world industry setting.
• High proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++.
• A strong interest and background in data-driven quality assurance measures.

Additionally, experience with LLM/GenAI-based products, a deep understanding of user behavior analysis, and a background in Natural Language Processing will be advantageous.
