The Meta Reality Labs Research Team combines world-class researchers, developers, and engineers to shape the future of AR and VR technology. Our Surreal Vision group within FRL Research is seeking outstanding Research Scientists to innovate egocentric machine perception functionalities and develop digital twins for 3D scenes, foundational to next-generation VR and contextual-AI-enabled AR devices.

As a Research Scientist Intern, you will work on groundbreaking research involving novel computer vision techniques, leveraging advanced neural reconstruction and generative AI modeling methods. Internships range from twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks, with various start dates throughout the year.

Research Scientist Intern, 3D Generative AI (PhD) Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute leading-edge research to advance machine perception, 3D object and scene reconstruction, and rendering.
  • Collaborate with Meta's machine perception teams to develop experiments, prototypes, and concepts that push the boundaries of AR/VR systems.
  • Design, set up, and run practical experiments and prototype systems related to high-quality sensing and machine reasoning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in computer vision, 3D machine perception, or machine learning.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with 3D and projective geometry, and image-space computer vision.
  • Experience implementing 3D computer vision algorithms and end-to-end ML model training.
  • Proficiency in Python and environments such as PyTorch.
  • Experience working in a Unix environment.
  • Authorization to work in the country of employment at the time of hire, with ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven record of significant achievements demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at top conferences (e.g., CVPR, ECCV/ICCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS).
  • Strong publication track record in neural reconstruction, neural rendering, object reconstruction, and tracking, or generative modeling.
  • Extensive programming experience with Python and PyTorch.
  • Software engineering experience through internships, work experience, coding competitions, or significant contributions to open-source repositories (e.g., GitHub).
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively across functional teams.
  • Intent to return to a degree program after completing the internship.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation ranges from $7,650/month to $11,333/month, plus benefits. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This range reflects base salary and excludes potential bonuses, equity, or sales incentives. Meta offers comprehensive benefits. .
