About the Role: Research Scientist Intern, Responsible AI (PhD)

Meta is on the lookout for Research Scientist Interns to join our Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team, focusing on groundbreaking Responsible AI initiatives. Our team publishes influential papers and releases widely used open-source frameworks and libraries, such as the LLaMa family of Large Language Models (LLMs) and tool-augmented language models. We collaborate closely with the Meta Generative AI team and other organizations to bring cutting-edge research from theory to practical application.

Responsibilities:

  • Publish state-of-the-art research papers focusing on the social impact of AI technologies.
  • Conduct independent research to investigate how sociotechnical systems affect different social groups.
  • Open-source high-quality code and reproducible results for community use.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or already holds a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information, Reinforcement Learning, Mathematics, or a relevant technical field.
  • Must have work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, C, Java, or similar.
  • Proficiency with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Strong interest in cross-disciplinary communication and conducting research in socio-technical systems and responsible AI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intent to return to the degree program after completing the internship/co-op.
  • Proven track record of significant research achievements demonstrated by grants, fellowships, or publications in conferences such as FAccT, AIES, *ACL.
  • Contributions to affinity workshops at machine learning conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML).
  • Experience in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Software engineering experience through internships, work experience, coding competitions, or substantial open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub).
  • Experience in cross-functional team communication.
